Old and New Attractions in Marbella
October 12, 2012Marbella has been a popular resort on the Costa del Sol since the development of tourism in 1960s. Most of its old and interesting attractions, as well as the new ones, are the reasons for its popularity till today, and not forgetting the apartments to rent in Marbella.
Even though Marbella is associated with the rich and the famous, it is a resort that has a lot to offer for everyone. Modern developments of plush hotels, nightspots, boutiques and fine restaurants are some of the images conjured in the mention of Marbella, but this original Costa del Sol resort is still proudly associated with its Andalusia roots.
You will still find Marbella old town area where things have not changed much for centuries. At the centre of this area is Plaza de Los Naranjos with its beautiful gardens with oranges and bright coloured flowers while a statue of King Juan Carlos 1 stands at the centre.
The orange square is surrounded by historical buildings among them the old governor’s house, town hall and the church of Santiago. There are numerous nearby narrow streets with interesting shops for souvenirs, as well as bars and restaurants offering genuine local dishes.
Plaza de Toros or Marbella bullring is another interesting sight not to miss. Bullfights still go on there and also many concerts and even performances during festivals. As the beach-side the most interesting attraction is definitely the Paseo Maritimo or the Scenic Board-walk.
The promenade stretches for about 6 km against the 25 km of Marbella coastline and is lined by palm trees, beautiful gardens, coffee shops, Cafes, outdoor restaurants, bars, cinemas and shopping malls. Another interesting modern attraction in Marbella is definitely the glamorous Puerto Banus port where you find the biggest expensive yachts.
